I am a programme leader MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) where I have worked for most of my scientific career. Structural and functional work with PI3K signal transduction has occupied my group for much of the last 25 years. In our most recent efforts with phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K) PI3Ks and PI3K-related protein kinases, we have used hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry and electron cryo-microscopy (cryo-EM) to understand how these giant enzyme complexes that are critical to cancer cell biology are regulated. We are trying to understand how these enzymes are activated in response to growth factor signalling, nutrition, REDOX stress, and ionizing radiation.
