Kinase Classification: Group AGC: Family PKN

Evolution

PKN is found across metazoans, with 3 genes (PKN1, PKN2, PKN3) in mammals

Domain Structure

PKNs have an array of 3 HR1 domains in the N-terminus, followed by a C2 domain and a kinase domain, a similar organization to that of fungal PKCs, though without their C1 domains

Functions

PKN is activated by Rho GTPases though the HR1 domains (similar to fungal PKCs), and has a wide range of substrates and functions.
