STE11 (MAP3K, MEKK) kinases are part of the MAPK signaling cascades: they are activated by STE20 (MAP4K) and phosphorylate STE7 (MAP2K, MEK) kinases.

Evolution
STE11 kinases are found in almost all eukaryotes, with Plasmodium being a notable exception.
