PKCd is one of two 'novel' PKC subfamilies

Evolution

There are two mammalian members, PKC delta and theta (PKCd/δ, PKCt/θ), with single homologs in invertebrates and choanoflagellates. Model organism homologs are PKCdelta (Drosophila) and tpa-1 (C. elegans)

Domain Structure

PKCd have an N-terminal variant C2 domain followed by two C1 domains (the reverse orientation to what is seen in PKCa), and a kinase domain
